Kuzmarov, MD, FRCSC - President
Dr. Kuzmarov is
a Urologist, based in Pointe Claire, Quebec, Assistant
Professor, Department of Surgery (Urology) McGill University.
Dr. Kuzmarov's major academic focus and areas of research are
male and female sexual dysfunction, the aging male, the effect
of cycling on neurovascular function in males and females, and
health policy. Dr. Kuzmarov is President of Ultra-Med Research,
Director of West Island Sexual Dysfunction and Wellness Clinic,
Past President of the Quebec Urologic Association, Past Chairman
of the Healthy Policy Committee, Canadian Urologic Association,
and Past Consultant to the Health Policy Committee, American
Urologic Association. President, Nominating Committee, Quebec
Urologic Association, Musical Director, Musical Chairs Band
Jerald Bain,
BScPhm, MD, MSc, FRCPC, CertEndo, BA - Past President
Dr. Bain is
Professor Emeritus in the Department of Medicine with a
cross-appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
at the University of Toronto. Since 1972 he has been a staff
physician within the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at
the Mount Sinai Hospital, a University of Toronto teaching
institution. His primary academic and clinical focus has been
reproductive and sexual medicine, especially in the male,
including: male infertility, male hypogonadism, chemical
contraception for men, aberrant sexual behaviour in the male.
For many years his attention has been increasingly concentrated
on testosterone deficiency and hormone replacement therapy in
the aging male. He was a founding member of the Canadian
Andrology Society and its first president between 1977 and 1979
(this society later merged with the Canadian Fertility Society
to become the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society in
1981). Dr. Bain is the immediate past president of the CSSAM.
He was the Editor-in-Chief of a CD-ROM and print book entitled:
"Mechanisms in Andropause". He is the author of a book for the
general public called "So Your Child is Gay", published by
HarperCollins.
Jack Barkin,
MD, FRCSC, FACS, FICS, DABU
– Treasurer, Co-chair of Finance Committee
Dr. Barkin is
Chief of Urology, Humber River Regional Hospital, Director of
The Fe/Male Health Centre in Toronto, Adjunct Clinical Professor
in Department of Surgery, University of Toronto and Past-
President of the Society of Urologic Surgeons of Ontario (SUSO).
Dr. Barkin is Vice-president for Business Development and
partner in CMX Research.
Dr. Barkin is
very active Urologic Surgeon who sub-specializes in andrology,
infertility, urologic oncology and men's health issues. He is a
prolific clinical researcher and has been involved with over 80
clinical trials in the field of urology. Dr. Barkin is also a
writer and speaker in the field of Andropause and has numerous
other publications on all aspects of Urology. He also sits on 9
different medical advisory committees for the pharmaceutical
industry. Dr. Barkin has presented countless times in various
media venues including radio, television, and all forms of the
print media.
Jay C. Lee, MD,
FRCSC – Secretary, Co-chair of Communications Committee
Dr. Lee is a
Urologist, based in the Calgary Health Region, Rockyview General
Hospital. He is a Clinical Lecturer, Department of Surgery,
Division of Urology, University of Calgary. Major academic
focus and areas of research include: male sexual dysfunction and
male aging, female sexual dysfunction, and infectious disease.
Dr. Lee holds membership in the American Urological Association,
Canadian Urological Association, Canadian Male Sexual Health
Council, Association Medecin-Sexuelle du Quebec, Societe
International d'urologie.
Richard A. Bebb,
MD, ABIM (IM/ENDO), FRCPC (IM/ENDO)
Dr. Bebb is an
Endocrinologist at St. Paul's Hospital, University of British
Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia. He is a consultant
Endocrinologist with research and clinical interests in
disorders of male gonadal function and reproductions and a
Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British
Columbia.
Serge Carrier,
MD, FRCSC – Co-chair of Research Committee
Dr. Serge
Carrier is a Urologist, and Assistant Professor of Surgery and
Urology Program Director, Division of Urology, McGill
University. Dr. Carrier is involved in major academic focus and
research of sexual and bladder dysfunction, male aging and
andrology.
Dr. Carrier is
a member of several societies which include the following:
Canadian Male Sexual Health Council where he is the Past-Chair,
Canadian Urological Association, American Urological
Association, Northeastern Section of the American Urological
Association—Executive Member, Sexual Medicine Society of North
America, Canadian Society for the Study of the Aging Male —
Executive Member, International Society for the Study of the
Aging Male, International Society for Sexual Medicine.
Christine
Folia, RPh, BScPhm, PharmD – Co-chair of Communications
Committee
Christine Folia
is Director of Market Access and Education at Agro Health
Associates Inc. in Burlington, Ontario and a Clinical Pharmacist
at the Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation. Christine has been
involved with the development and delivery of numerous
educational programs for healthcare professionals and patients
in a variety of therapeutic areas including hypogonadism,
erectile dysfunction, prostate cancer and prostatitis.
Christine is also a member of the Ontario College of Pharmacists
and the Canadian College of Clinical Pharmacy.
David
Greenberg, BSc, MD – Co-chair of Membership Committee
Dr. Greenberg
is a Family Practitioner; 30% of his practice is pediatrics and
30% is psychotherapy. Dr. Greenberg was Chief of Family and
Community Medicine and Chief of Emergency Medicine at Doctors
Hospital. He is Co-ordinator of Continuing Medical Education at
St. Josephs Health Centre and is extensively involved in
developing and implementing educational programs for GP's,
specialists and the general public. Over the last several
years, Dr. Greenberg has developed a special interest in health
issues related to aging in men, especially andropause and has
helped to develop/present several CME programs on related
topics. Dr. Greenberg is a consulting physician for the
Canadian Opera Company and former physician for the Toronto
Argonauts football team.
Barry Rich, MD
- Co-chair of Finance Committee
Barry Rich is a
Vancouver area Family Physician with a practice limited to men,
primarily No-Scalpel / No-Needle Vasectomy, of which he has
performed more than 10000 over the last ten years. He also
consults patients and physicians on a host of matters related to
male sexual function and testosterone replacement.
Pierre Alarie,
MD – Co-Chair of Quebec Committee
Dr.
Alarie is
a family physician who has been working in the field of sexual
medicine for 30 years. He is Associate Professor, Department of
Family Medicine, Université de Montréal and Coordinator of the
Sexual Dysfunction Unit at St-Luc Hospital (CHUM) in Montréal.
Dr. Alarie is President of the Association de Médecine Sexuelle
du Québec (AMSQ),
co-founderof the Réseau de Médecine Sexuelle du Québec (RMSQ)
and a
member of the Center of Research of the CHUM at the Université
de Montréal.
His
fields of interest are continuing medical education (CME),
clinical research, medical practice and post-doctoral continuing
education.
Francois Bénard,
MD, FRCSC – Co-chair of Membership Committee
Dr. Bénard is
an associate professor of urology at CHUM - Saint Luc site and
Urology Program Director at Université de Montréal. He is
actively involved in clinical research in the area of erectile
dysfunction as a principal investigator or coinvestigator. He
has been the main author and co-author of several articles on
erectile dysfunction published in medical and scientific
journals. He gave several scientific papers at major
conferences, some of which have earned him awards.
Dr. Bénard is
secretary of the Quebec Urological Association, treasurer of the
Canadian Male Health Sexual Council of Canada, member of the
Canadian Urological Association, the American Urological
Association, the International Society for Sexual and Impotence
Research, and the Institute of medical resources on andropause.
Arie Benchetrit,
MD, FRCSC – Co-chair of Membership Committee
Dr. Benchetrit
is a Plastic Surgeon at Lakeshore General Hospital and Medical
Director of Cosmedica in Pointe-Claire, Quebec. His areas of
interest include cosmetic surgery and procedures, including
gynecomastia surgery, liposuction and non-invasive face and body
procedures that are very pertinent to the aging male.
Dr. Benchetrit
is a member of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the
American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of
Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the Quebec Association of Plastic
Surgeons, and the Canadian Laser Society.
Gerald Brock, MD, FRCSC – Co-chair of Research Committee
Dr. Gerald Brock is Associate Professor, Department of Surgery,
Division of Urology, at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in London,
Ontario. He completed his Medical and Urology Degrees at McGill
University in Montreal and subsequently did a two year
fellowship in Neurourology with Dr. Tom Lue at the University of
California, San Francisco. He currently runs a large tertiary
care erectile dysfunction clinic at St. Joseph’s Health Care,
where he sees between 2000-2500 new consults annually. In
addition to his responsibilities of resident teaching, he runs a
productive basic animal research lab evaluating the impact of
disease on erectile mechanisms.
Dr. Brock is an active participant in professional associations,
previous Chair of the Canadian Male Sexual Health Council
(affiliate of the Canadian Urology Association - CUA), and past
chair of the Guidelines Committee of the CUA. Dr. Brock is the
author of over 50 peer reviewed publications, 13 book chapters
as well as numerous abstracts. Over the past decade he has
been invited to speak across Canada, the USA, Europe, Australia
and Asia. Dr. Brock’s work in urology and erectile dysfunction
is acknowledged by his role as an Editorial Board member of the
Canadian Journal of Urology, Andrology, Chronicle of Medicine
and Sexual Health, and as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of
Urology, Urology, and the International Journal of Impotence
Research.
Jerzy B.
Gajewski, MD, FRCSC – Chairman of 2nd North American
Congress on the Aging Male
Dr. Gajewski is
a Professor of Urology and Pharmacology in Dalhousie University
in Halifax. He is Director of Neurourology and Urodynamic
Program in the Department of Urology. He graduated from Medical
School in Poznan, Poland (1973) and pursued his urological
training in Poland, Germany and Canada, before completing a
fellowship in neurourology and urodynamics in Dalhousie
University. His main interests are voiding dysfunction,
incontinence, interstitial cystitis, erectile dysfunction and
andropause. He published over 50 papers and book chapters and
had over 100 presentations on these topics. He is very active
member of Canadian Urological Association and is presently its
Treasurer. He is also a Chair of the Canadian Male Sexual
Council and President of the Canadian Academy of Urological
Surgeon.
Alvaro Morales,
MD, FRCSC, FACS - Honorary Member
Dr. Morales is
a Urologist, Professor in the Departments of Urology and
Oncology at Queen’s University. Major academic focus and areas
of research include urologic oncology, tumor immunology, male
sexual dysfunction and male aging. He has memberships in the
following societies; American Urological Association, Canadian
Urological Association (Past-President), Northeastern Section of
the American Urological (Past-President), Sexual Medicine
Society of North America (Past-President), International Society
for the Study of the Aging Male—Executive Member, International
Society for the Impotence Research— Executive Member.
Roland R.
Tremblay, DSc, MD, PhD, CSPQ - Honorary Member, Past President
Dr. Tremblay is
a Consultant in Endocrinology and Andrology and Director of the
Andrology Laboratory, Laval University Hospital Center,
Sainte-Foy, Quebec. He is Professor Emeritus of Medicine,
Faculty of Medicine, Laval University, Sainte-Foy, Quebec.
Professor Tremblay achieved his MD degree in 1964 at Laval
University and subsequently started training there in physiology
(1965-1968). He continued his education at John Hopkins
University (Baltimore MD) and the National Institute of Health
(Bethesda MD), where he was involved in studies on SHBG, male
hormones and receptors in target tissues. In 1970, he joined
Laval University and in this period he developed in 1974 the
concept of bioavailable testosterone. During the 1980’s, he
started studies in anthropology in which he obtained a PhD in
1995 following fieldwork in West Africa.
Professor
Tremblay is a member of numerous national and international
professional scientific societies and has been active in many of
them in several positions. In 1998, he became President of the
Canadian Andropause Society until January 2002. Recently, he
became a member of the scientific advisory board and faculty of
the International Society for the Study of the Aging Male.
